Tadoba-Andhari
Tiger Reserve is the oldest national park in Maharashtra and one of India’s 41
Project Tiger reserves. It is located in the Chandrapur district of
Maharashtra, India, at distance of 45 km from Chandrapur city. The park’s name
is derived from the name of a local God ‘Taru’. Tadoba was established in 1935
and declared a National Park in 1955. Andhari wildlife Sanctuary was created in
1986. In 1995 both the park and the sanctuary were merged to establish the
present Tiger Reserve. In TATR 41 species of mammals have been recorded;
10 of these species are endangered. These are: the tiger, leopard, rusty
spotted cat, leopard cat, sloth bear, ratel, gaur, horned antelope, Indian mouse
deer and the Indian pangolin.

species of avifauna have been recorded of which some are endangered. Three reptiles
are also on this list such as the marsh crocodile, Indian python and common
Indian monitor lizard. There are over 100 species of butterflies recorded among
which, the danaid egg fly and the great fly are on the endangered species list.
Tadoba is a paradise for nature lovers. It is known as the ‘Jewel of Vidarbha’,
covering an area of 625 sq.km. This includes the Tadoba and Andhari ranges.

By Air:-
The nearest airport at
Nagpur is about 140 km from the park by road. There are direct flights to
Nagpur from several major cities like Mumbai and Pune.
By Rail:-
The most convenient railway station is
at Chandrapur (comes on the main line of Delhi-Chennai), and it is
approximately 45 km from the park.
By Road:-
From Mumbai, the park is approximately
900 km and from Nagpur it is 140 km.
